She announced that she would be 53 in two days, which was older than she wanted to be. From now on she would tell people that she was 35. Then, instead of people telling her “You look good for your age”, she would enjoy the silent judgements as they tried to understand her advanced appearance.

In a culture that does not acknowledge the value of aging, I get it. And admittedly, she did look good for her age. But, where did I learn that from and why does it matter?

What is the value of aging? The longer I live, the deeper I am able to explore what that question means to me. Which would have me to believe, that the opportunity to penetrate our deepest questions through a lived experience, may be the value of aging?
