Chips

“I want to be a millionaire when I grow up.”

“What you gonna do, have someone pay you a dime for every chip you eat? You gotta have a real skill to make money in this world.”

Feeling ashamed, the young child placed the bag of chips to the side, and the guardian got their wish.

But, from that day forward, the child would grow up believing one of the world’s biggest lies– That millionaires, didn’t eat chips like them.

Interpretation: Children hear what we say, not what we mean to say. The child in this story does not hear “Don’t eat so many chips”, they hear, “People who are wealthy are not like you.” So, they go on believing that something is wrong with them, and that the person they once dreamed of becoming, is something other than themselves.
